[Android] ARM lancia il suo Android ADK

Con la diffusione sempre più pervasiva di dispositivi Android, quali smartphone e tablet, Google ha iniziato a perseguire l’obiettivo di traghettare Android su dispositivi elettronici di vario genere. Durante il Google I/O 2011, Google ha lanciato l’Android Open Accessories Development Kit (ADK) che si occupa di fornire un interfaccia per piattaforme basate su Arduino.

Tramite questi sistemi è possibile andare a gestire dei device elettronici tramite Android.
Un esempio di questo tipo lo abbiamo visto durante il primo incontro del GTUG Milano, dove Egil Hogholt e Thomas Riga ci hanno mostrato il controllo tramite Android rispettivamente di un coniglio Nabataz e un veicolo costruito con mattoncini lego.
Ora il consorzio ARM, famoso produttore di chip a basso consumo di energia, ha deciso di entrare in gioco. Con il rilascio della nuova versione della loro piattaforma di sviluppo chiamata Development Studio 5 Community Edition, viene supportato, oltre a Linux, anche Android.
La caratteristica principale di DS-5 come piattaforma è che non si focalizza tanto sull’ottimizzazione delle applicazioni in quanto a prestazioni ma, soprattutto, in quanto ad efficienza energetica (caratteristica di punta dei processori ARM).
Inoltre, a quanto sostiene la compagnia, la piattaforma ARM è in grado di produrre codice fino a quattro volte più veloce di Java.
